VCOM to Provide Care at 2027 World Military Games in Charlotte

I n 2027, Charlotte, North Carolina, will make history as the first U.S. city to host the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military World Summer Games—and VCOM will serve as the event’s official medical partner. The Military World Summer Games, often referred to as the “Olympics for the military,” will

bring together more than 10,000 elite athletes from over 100 countries to compete in 25 sports, including Olympic events such as swimming and basketball, alongside military-specific competitions like parachuting, shooting, and the military pentathlon. After an eight year hiatus, the 2027 games offer a renewed opportunity to promote peace and cultural exchange through sports.

VCOM’s participation underscores its leadership in sports medicine and its mission to serve. The College offers sports medicine fellowships at its Virginia and Auburn campuses, and program alumni are recognized nationally for their expertise and commitment to osteopathic principles. Many have gone on to serve as team physicians for Olympic, professional, and Division I teams.
