Background: VCOM encompasses four campuses, each with unique patient populations seen throughout the Southeastern United States. Osteopathic physicians strive to provide holistic care, considering barriers to adequate nutrition intake. Food insecurity is related to negative health outcomes. Louisiana has a food insecurity rate of 14%, while Alabama’s food insecurity rate is slightly higher at 15%. Objective: This retrospective analysis aims to identify the most prevalent nutrition-related ICD-10 codes within the CREDO database for Louisiana (LA) and Alabama (AL). By evaluating nutrition-related chief complaints reported among patients at VCOM’s AL and LA-affiliated clinic sites, we aim to identify and compare key malnutrition patterns seen within these patient populations. Methods: A retrospective review using ICD-10 codes reported in CREDO will be completed for patients with nutrition-related medical diagnoses in both Alabama and Louisiana. The review includes patients 19 years and older, who were seen at VCOM-affiliated rotation sites between December 2021-December 2023.

Results: The project is ongoing, and results are pending further data analysis. Results will be formally reported in the poster presentation. Conclusions: In-depth data evaluation of the nutrition-related ICD-10 codes from VCOM rotation sites in Alabama and Louisiana will lead to a comprehensive understanding of malnutrition patterns in these states. Nuanced conclusions can be drawn based on encounters in each state to inform differences in exposure to nutrition-related medical conditions at various clinical sites.
