have the discretionary power to request, to the Board, the promotion of other administrators. Administrative duties do not contribute to a tenure decision alone and tenure does not guarantee administrative roles. Teaching Performance: 1. Sustained high quality and effective contributions to, and development of, VCOM’s curriculum and medical education programs as evidenced by: a. the development and delivery of high quality educational materials, b. effective delivery of educational content, and c. effective teaching in the clinical setting. Research and Scholarly Activity: 1. Sustained research programs with recognition by external bodies through grants or as a part of a research institute or program providing funding. 2. Sustained research with recognition of findings through peer-reviewed scholarly publications. 3. Scholarly Activity through the publication of original scholarly publications in nationally recognized and/or peer-reviewed journals, periodicals, and books. 4. Oral and/or poster presentations at State and National conferences. 5. Research presentations / posters at research competitions such as Research Day with recognition. 6. Mentoring of students successful in research (with evidence of success through research publications or poster presentations). 7. Patents that have been successful in reaching market. 8. Scholarly work (publications) in the areas of scientific, medical, health, and health policy. 9. Scholarly work materials for the College that have resulted in significant curricular improvement college wide. 10. Sustained success in grant and/or program support for the research and college programs work that support the VCOM’s mission. Service: 1. Sustained professional service within the medical field contributing to the health of the community or region, the state, or at the national level where the faculty member is represented as a member of VCOM. 2. Sustained service to the medical community including local and regional medical societies, state medical organizations, and national organizations, by sustained participation in service and leadership, (where the faculty member has represented VCOM or the profession and utilizes his or her title with VCOM) 3. Sustained service to VCOM through participation on committees, task forces, and student interviews. 4. Sustained service to international and community based VCOM outreach programs. 5. Sustained notable clinical service where recognized for expertise and accomplishment. 6. Sustained professional service by the biomedical faculty to the community representing VCOM or the faculty member’s title with VCOM 7. Sustained professional service by the biomedical faculty to state and national organizations representing VCOM or the faculty member’s title with VCOM. Faculty Performance and Service Expectations for Promotion to the Rank of Professor While the below comprehensive list outlines the contributions regarding performance for those who seek a Professor status, they do not exclude all other considerations. Evidence of accomplishment beyond this list should be accepted and reviewed as to the impact on VCOM, the osteopathic profession, or the field of health professions as a whole. The administration, the Board, and division leaders promote the innovation and efforts by faculty to lead in the many arenas that affect science and health. Demonstration of such leadership should be submitted for consideration. Accomplishment should be in many of the areas below to achieve Professor rank. Examples of criteria used in evaluating sustained accomplishment include, but are not limited to, the following:
