 State the findings of the transcript evaluation service as to the equivalency and verification process of the degree (a copy of the report from the evaluation service must be included), and  Specify both the track and rank recommended. o A letter of denial of initial appointment by the Provost must detail the reason(s) for denial and any recommendations to improve the application. o A letter of delay in making a decision regarding initial appointment by the Provost must detail the reason(s) for their inability to make a decision and must include any recommendations to improve the application, as well as identifying a mentor who will offer assistance to improve the application. o If approved for initial appointment by the Provost, the letter of initial appointment and request for confirmation of initial appointment will be sent to the Board for confirmation of the candidate’s initial appointment within 30 days of the date of the letter. All initial appointments are considered temporary for a period not to exceed one year until confirmed by the Provost and the Board.

Temporary Initial Appointment Temporary initial appointment may be granted to academic track, clinical track, research track, or adjunct tract candidates by the appropriate Associate Dean until the application for initial appointment is complete (not to exceed six months). However, candidates should be encouraged to submit their initial appointment applications to the APT in a timely manner so that they may be considered by the APT Committee without the need for temporary appointment. Temporary appointment is a six month time-limited appointment and is granted upon condition of the candidate having appropriate credentials and, if a physician, an active and unrestricted medical license. If required, a temporary initial appointment may be renewed once, after which, the physician either completes their application for initial appointment or is removed from teaching responsibilities. Adjunct track candidates who are scheduled to teach in the OMS 1 or OMS 2 year may receive a temporary adjunct appointment from the Associate Deans for Medical Education at the time the candidate is scheduled to teach if they have not yet been reviewed by the APT Committee. Adjunct track candidates or clinical track candidates who are scheduled to teach in the OMS 3 or OMS 4 year may receive a temporary adjunct appointment from the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs or the Associate Dean for OMS 4 and GME at the time a student is placed on a clinical rotation with the candidate if they have not yet been reviewed by the APT Committee. The Associate Dean is responsible for reviewing the credentials and licensure of the candidate, including the candidate has the appropriate basic credential to teach, and awarding the temporary appointment prior to the candidate teaching for VCOM. Upon completion of the application for initial appointment, the Associate Dean will bring the candidate’s initial application packet to the APT Committee to review following the review process for initial appointment as outlined above. Appointment of VA and Military Physicians Veterans Administration (VA) and military personal who are eligible for faculty appointment at VCOM, are physicians or other health care professionals who may contribute to VCOM’s didactic or research efforts, but primarily participate in the education of VCOM students in clinical settings. These physicians are not employees of VCOM and may or may not have clinical agreements with VCOM for teaching, depending on the level of commitment, duties, rights, and responsibilities agreed upon between the command structure, individual VA,
