should be recognized at the College level and when representing the College at the state or national level. Publications from clinical expertise that contribute to the body of scientific knowledge are considered as well as scholarly activity related to research. Promotion to the rank of Associate Professor requires evidence of sustained college service on committees and other areas of service. Faculty members who are assigned significant research time/duties must show progress in research and scholarly activity; however, accomplishments are not anticipated to be at the level of those required for promotion to Professor. Military service with recognition for accomplishment (by rank, service medal, or other forms of service) is considered a nationally recognized accomplishment for the purpose of appointment and promotion to Associate Professor. Professor Appointment or promotion to the rank of Professor requires sustained performance at an outstanding level that is expected to receive the respect or recognition of accomplishment in the state and national academic and health care arenas. Appointment or promotion to the rank of Professor implies sustained outstanding accomplishments in each of the three areas listed below: • Area 1: o Sustained outstanding accomplishment advancing medical education within the College; o Sustained outstanding accomplishment advancing medical education recognized at the state or national level; and/or o Sustained outstanding accomplishment in medical education administration within the College and accompanied by accomplishments advancing medical education at the state or national level. • Area 2: • Area 3: o Sustained outstanding accomplishment in college service consistently exceeding the level of annual expectation; o Sustained outstanding accomplishments in college service advancing the recognition of the College and the profession at the state or national level; and/or o Sustained outstanding accomplishment in local, state, national, or international settings that advance health or the profession with recognitions. Military service with recognition for accomplishment (by rank, service medal, or other forms of service) is considered a nationally recognized accomplishment for the purpose of appointment and promotion to Professor. Sustained accomplishment in teaching requires sustained positive evaluations within the institution and scholarly work in education that is recognized within and outside the institution. The accomplishments may also be in educational administration. Service includes not only college service but also clinical or educational service that is worthy of recognition outside of the institution. When achieving Professor status, service is generally expected to also occur at the state and/or national level. Research and scholarly activity is evaluated by sustained performance of research that is recognized by frequent publication, and/or presentations at the state or national level that contribute to the field of science and medicine and through grantsmanship. o Sustained outstanding accomplishments in meritorious research; and/or o Sustained outstanding accomplishments through scholarly activity.
