VCOM Faculty Handbook

Types of Coverage Two types of healthcare coverage are available to VCOM employees: • Employee-Only • Employee-Family (spouse plus unmarried dependent children aged 26 or under) Cost

VCOM currently pays all the premiums for high deductible healthcare coverage and most of the premium for KeyCare healthcare coverage. Employees’ share of the cost will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck on a semi-monthly basis. Employees may choose to take bundled health and dental coverage or health coverage only during open enrollment. The amount VCOM pays toward dependent coverage may change from year to year depending upon the cost of the plan. Coverage Changes Except for certain “qualifying events,” like a change in marital status, birth of a child, change in spouse’s employment, current employees may make changes in their coverage or their plan only during the open enrollment period for health benefits, which is held once a year, in May or June. Notice: Subject to Change The health insurance provider plans and costs are periodically reviewed by VCOM and are subject to change depending upon change in policy offers or providers. VCOM reserves the right to make changes based upon approval from VCOM’s administration, with final approval from the Board. Dental Insurance Currently all eligible VCOM employees are offered dental insurance, which is a dental expense assistance plan, designed to help provide the employee and their eligible dependents with regular dental care. The plan will pay a substantial portion of expenses for regular dental check-ups and treatments necessary for dental health. It is not intended to pay dental expenses in full. Open enrollment will take place between the months of May and June. Dental coverage is a benefit that is reviewed annually and is subject to change.

Comprehensive Plan Employee-Only Employee-Family (spouse plus unmarried dependent children aged 26 or under) Cost

Costs of the dental plan are included with the medical plan but may also be selected on an a la carte basis. Due to the rate structure of the medical plan, employees may choose to take dental coverage only or bundle it with the health insurance during open enrollment. Employees share of the cost will be deducted from their paycheck on a semi-monthly basis. Coverage Changes Except for certain “qualifying events,” like a change in marital status, birth of a child, change in spouse’s employment, current employees may make changes in their coverage only during the open enrollment period for dental benefits. VCOM shall only make changes in coverage during this same time frame and changes in coverage will be announced.
