In addition to two theatre classrooms that easily accommodate 150 students each and can seat up to 200 if desired, there are 20 moderately sized rooms available for small group learning. The main campus building also includes a state-of-the-art anatomy lab, a center for technology and simulated medicine, a library and student study and lounge space. VCOM collaborates with the University of Louisiana Monroe whereby the student is very much a part of the University community. VCOM and ULM hold separate accreditations. VCOM research collaborates with the ULM School of Pharmacy, Kinesiology College and the University Biology departments. VCOM’s faculty share space in the University laboratories and the University faculty share space in VCOM’s laboratories. Monroe Community and Area The VCOM-Louisiana campus sits stately on the banks of the Bayou DeSiard within the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) campus. Located in the city of Monroe with a population of approximately 50,000, the campus is surrounded by rich culinary and cultural traditions found only in Louisiana. Monroe is not only home of the Monroe Coca-Cola Bottling Company, but also the birthplace of Delta Airlines, which still provides commercial service out of the Monroe Regional Airport. Centrally located in northeast Louisiana, there is easy access to Shreveport, LA (100 miles to the west) and Vicksburg, MS (75 miles to the east) along Interstate 20. The region boasts miles and miles of rivers, streams and bayous – truly a sportsman’s paradise cradled in the Lower Mississippi Delta. University of Louisiana Monroe Activities VCOM-Louisiana campus operates with a collaborative agreement with the University of Louisiana Monroe for education, research, and student activities. This collaboration offers the Louisiana campus faculty and students many benefits such as an opportunity to participate in ULM campus activities, including use of the student support services, libraries, recreational facilities, food services, parking, transportation, and student activities. These activities supplement the activities and student programs available on the VCOM Campus and utilized by students for everything from study to intramurals. The library on each campus is a state-of-the-art electronic medical resource center serving the faculty, staff and students. A library exists on each campus for faculty and staff and include modest collections of medical literature including books and journals and a robust on-line library, which includes over 300 electronic databases, including online full-text access to over 3,000 scholarly journals and more than 18,000 current serials. Physical resources of the libraries include study carrels, a digital resource laboratory, 209 computer workstations (including laptop computers that can be checked out), photocopies, GIS workstations, and an assistive technology workstation area.
