ACOFP American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Brian Anderson, President; Kiersten Mullis, Vice President; Spencer Hoffman, Treasurer; Taylor Davis, Secretary

T he primary goal of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) student organization is to advance the standards of family practice by encouraging and improving educational opportunities for the training of family physicians in all branches of Osteopathic Medicine. The group’s objective is to establish and promote a general understanding of the scope of services rendered by a family physician while maintaining high moral and ethical standards. This year the organization worked to provide community outreach in a variety of ways. Members participated in health screenings as a part of the Health Builders initiative alonside Petra Warren, MD. The initiative’s goal is to offer health screenings to

community organizations such as Miracle Hill and several Spartanburg County schools. ACOFP also successfully raised money for Relay for Life and worked with SGA to put on a Thanksgiving canned food drive for the 2nd Harvest Food Bank. ACOFP hosted many speakers who expanded student member’s knowledge about the health field. Jamie Burns, DO, is an alum and current chief resident who held a Q&A on residency program considerations for those interested in Family Medicine. Stoney Abercrombie, MD, of AnMed Health brought his team to demonstrate specialized office procedures including endometrial biopsy, incentive spirometry, and joint injection/aspiration. Partnering with the OB/GYN special interest group,

ACOFP hosted Brittney Bicksler, DO, who touched on her decision to board in Family Medicine and then her option to pursue a fellowship in OB/GYN. ACOFP promoted scholarships and events to its members, with opportunities to participate in the organization at the national level, and the group participated in national service projects like Habitat for Humanity. Students may participate in National Conferences, and the organization does fundraising every year to ensure that interested members will receive enough funding to go to the National Conference. With such an enjoyable and successful year, the organization is excited to see growth as it falls under new leadership.
