VCOM - Carolinas 2018 Yearbook

Focused on Serving Those Most in Need A defining characteristic of VCOM-Carolinas students is their heart for service. Since opening in 2011, students have been drawn to this school by its Mission: to prepare globally-minded, community- focused physicians to serve those most in need. Throughout their education, students seek out ways to focus their skills and energy back into the communities, both locally and abroad. Later, many VCOM graduates return as alumni preceptors, serving alongside students and faculty in clinics. To support the students' effort to fulfill the Mission, VCOM works year-round to develop partnerships, research endeavors, clinical opportunities and facility improvements to ensure students and alumni can follow where their service-oriented hearts lead, continuing to make an impact by providing care for our local community and wherever their journeys may take them. Through international and Appalachian outreach experiences, VCOM faculty and students seek not just to treat, but to improve the health of rural and underserved populations. Ongoing research activities inspire new discoveries and opportunities for preventive patient care and education, reinforcing the VCOM mission.
