INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Special Interest Group of SOIMA

Jaimie Seawell, Chair

T he Infectious Disease (ID) Special Interest Group is a subgroup of the Student Osteopathic Internal Medicine Association (SOIMA) and provides opportunities for students who share an interest in the field of infectious disease. ID gives students opportunities to learn more about the field of infectious disease and share their passion with other students and community members. Infectious disease is applicable to almost all medical specialties, and the organization strives to reach out to the student body as a whole to integrate these overlapping facets.

Last year ID hosted a booth at the pediatric health fair about hand hygiene, and made hand washing into a game with black lights to show glowing “germs” on the children’s hands before teaching them how to adequately wash to remove them. In February, ID hosted Stanley Miller, MD, an Infectious Disease specialist at Mary Black.
