SAMOPS Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons

T he Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) is dedicated to serving rising military osteopathic physicians. The organization meets this goal by helping further their medical educations and deepen their commitment to serving the men and women of the Armed Forces today and in the future. SAMOPS is mostly composed of Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) scholarship recipients from the Air Force, Navy and Army, as well as former service members.

Over the past year, SAMOPS organization events have included creating and handing out cards to veterans on Veterans Day, commemorating Memorial Day and Patriots Day, and hosting mock physical fitness testing for members. The organization also hosted Robert Jones, MD, a local emergency department physician and former HPSP scholarship recipient who practiced in the Air Force. Dr. Jones shared information based on his experience in the military match process and lifestyle of the military.

SAMOPS also hosted an event in which fourth year medical students returned to campus and shed light on the process of audition rotations and applying to a military residency program. The organization strives to host beneficial, quality events and information sessions for the members as they prepare for careers in the military.
