CAROLINAS STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

The SAAO organization continues to grow, and members continue to make a difference in their communities using their osteopathic principles.

AAO Convocation in Colorado, but allowed more students to attend and continue their education without having to travel across the country. Current students and alumni from VCOM-Carolinas and VCOM-Virginia participated in this event, and faculty from both campuses led workshops to teach OMM techniques beyond what is offered in the curriculum.

occasions to introduce the field of PMR. Dr. Mourtada met with members to explain the diversity, challenges and benefits of the profession, and demonstrated joint injections. Regionally, the organization participated in a live Telecom journal discussion with fellow PMR members at VCOM-Virginia. Members had the opportunity to present a topic to both campuses and engage in an interesting and medically relevant discussion.

Nationally, PMR members went to the mid-year AOCPMR conference in Hollywood Beach, Florida, to attend workshops as well as network with practicing physicians and current residents in the field. All these events have a single goal of expanding members’ knowledge of the field and gaining exposure to all

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Special Interest Group is a subgroup of the Student American Association of Osteopathy (SAAO). Recently, the PMR organization has been working on getting more involved locally, regionally and even nationally. Locally, members had a chance to meet with Husam Mourtada, MD, a PMR physician at Spartanburg Regional, on two separate
