ACOP American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians

T he mission of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) is to encourage exploration within the field of pediatrics. This organization is one of the largest and most active clubs on campus, regularly participating in research, educational events, and outreach projects within the community. Participation has been recognized at a national level, being named Student Club of the Month by the national ACOP organization in November 2016. The largest event this year was the annual Pediatric Wellness Fair, which reached nearly 200 families. ACOP provided a “whole body, whole

person” approach by bringing a variety of community resources to one location. Most of the organizations on campus provided fun and educational activities for participants. Lunch was provided, and take-home bags were sent with many families. ACOP also started a speaker series for members to expand their knowledge about different opportunities within the pediatric field in 2016, with sessions including a panel of physicians from a pediatric residency, multiple pediatric specialists, and a panel of fourth-year students who plan to focus on the pediatric specialty.

ACOP provided non-perishable food items for elementary school students to enjoy over their spring break, as many have limited meal options available during this time. The organization also hosted monthly Promoting Lifelong Activity in Youth (PLAY) program events at Meeting Street Academy, a local elementary school.
