ID Infectious Disease, a SOIMA Special Interest Group

Kory Drake, Chair

T he Infectious Disease (ID) special interest group, a subgroup of SOIMA, is a place where students can share their interest in prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Members strive to help the community stay informed about ways to prevent and treat infectious diseases, while leaning more to help prepare for their futures as physicians. Over the past year, the group hosted a lecture from Sean Cook, DO, a physician specializing in infectious disease medicine. Dr.

Cook gave members insight to what infectious disease doctors do in their practice, and shared information on what training is like for infectious disease doctors after medical school. Since microbiology is closely tied to infectious disease, members held review sessions for first year medical students during their microbiology course. ID also hosted a booth at the Kids Wellness Fair, incorporating hand-washing into a fun game and showing children how well they did at washing their hands.
