CARDIO Cardiology, a SOIMA Special Interest Group

T he Cardiology Special Interest Group, a specialty organization at VCOM–Carolinas, has been established to cultivate student interest in and exposure to cardiology-related fields. The group seeks to expand students’ knowledge about cardiovascular diseases and proper procedures related to heart disease and function,

competitive applicants and successful cardiologists.

CARDIO has partnered with its parent organization, SOIMA, to promote heart healthy living at VCOM’s annual adult wellness fair, which takes place in the spring each year. The group also communicates with local cardiologists who can provide our members with insight in pursuing a career in cardiology.

As heart disease is one of the top killers in the United States, it is the mission of the CARDIO group to also educate the community on preventative measures, and seek appropriate screenings and treatment. Members have found benefit in collaborating with some of the larger student organizations.
