Hanna Sahhar, MD was awarded Clinical Faculty of the Block at VCOM-Carolinas in 2015, and Preceptor of the Year for 2015- 2016. He was promoted to the rank of MUSC

February, 2016. 2015 Collegiate Advertising Awards - Gold Award for the 2015 Annual Report and Yearbook: Building on a Tradition of Success, in the Graduate School Annual Report category. February, 2016. 2015-16 Advancement Awards from the Council for Advancements and Support of Education (CASE) Southeast District III. Received special merit award for Magazine/Tabloid Improvement. 2015 American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) Second place for Best Advertising for the “Thinking of Medical School?” advertising campaign for the Auburn campus. AACOM Marketing and Communications Council member. American Advertising Federation - Roanoke Chapter member.

AHEC Clinical Professor (Spartanburg/ Pediatrics) by the Medical University of South Carolina. In 2015, Dr. Sahhar published “Salmonella Schwarzengrund-Induced Meningitis and septicemia in a Seven- Week-Old Infant” in the eJournal of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians . As faculty advisor to the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) student organization at VCOM- Carolinas, Dr. Sahhar participated in a variety of student-organized community health events and shared in the victory of numerous award-winning student posters and presentations at various national and regional conferences. Under his supervision, VCOM ACOP students participated in the ACOP 2016 Spring Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, where they were awarded Student Club of the Year. The Pediatrics student organization, under Dr. Sahhar’s leadership, also presented at the ACOP/AAP 75th Anniversary Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where they were awarded Best Poster Award: Student Club; the Florida Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics (FCAAP) Meeting and Pediatric Medial Student Research Forum in Orlando, Florida; and the AOA/ ACOP Pediatric Track Conference at OMED in Orlando, Florida. In February 2016, Dr. Sahhar presented a research poster at the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) 45th Critical Care Congress in Orlando, Florida. His ongoing research projects include: • PLAY Program: Prevention of Childhood Obesity Pilot Study • Does Pre-Clinical Pediatric Experience Improve Competence and/or Confidence in Performance During 3rd Year Pediatric Rotations? • Effectiveness of Non-Invasive Ventilator Modes of Respiratory Support for Infants and Children with Acute Bronchiolitis

Chris Martin completed Advanced Disaster Life Support Instructor Training through the National Disaster Life SUpport Foundation (NDLSF).

He spoke at the Aeromedical Transport Conference in Long Beach, California in October, 2015. He presented a poster at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) in 2016.

Cindy McKinney, PhD presented posters at the American Society of Human Genetics in October, 2015; at the inaugural VCOM– Carolinas Research Day

Ward Stevens Chair - Council for Rural Virginia

in April 2016; and at the International Genetics Congress in April 2016. Dr. McKinney also served as guest editor on the special issue of Frontiers in Neuroscience , “Exosomes, Neurodegeneration and Therapy.”

Medicine +1 Residency and achieved Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Board Certification. Dr. Powers also presented research at the ROME Conference in May 2016 after serving on planning committees for the conference.
