STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

T he American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) is dedicated to supporting women in medicine by improving and advocating for women’s health issues. AWMA is a nationally recognized membership comprised of physicians, residents, medical students, pre-medical students, health care professionals and supporters. This year AWMA co-hosted Women’s Health Week along with ACOOG to provide a week full of educational and supportive efforts for all women. During Women’s Health week, AMWA hosted an all-female physician panel that talked about what life is like as a female physician, provided Mother’s Day cards to Labor and Delivery at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) and promoted women’s empowerment through affirmations. Also, AWMA collected and donated clothes, toiletries and other items to Our Love for Smiles, a Domestic Violence Center here in Auburn. AMWA also spearheaded VCOM’s support and participation in Denim Day to show our support in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness month.
