The American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians strives to give medical students an opportunity to learn more about the field of pediatrics and to interact with and serve children in the Auburn/ Opelika area. ACOP members have continued delivering food to local families with food insecurities through Nourish AL . Members have also participated in Miracle League , tutoring with Esperanza House, and raising money for The Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus Regional through Auburn University Dance Marathon. In July, members attended Esperanza House’s Back-to-School Bash where they donated school supplies to 25 local, school- aged students and also performed medical screening exams with the help of local pediatricians. In August, ACOP members volunteered at the Opelika SportsPlex Triathlon for Kids to aid the children in the transition zones between swimming, biking and running. Members also helped in the Small Fry Tri event for children less than 6-years-old. In October, ACOP once again paired with Esperanza House to host a pumpkin painting event for students. In March, the organization hosted a fundraiser for Camp Kesem by pledging to shave their member’s heads. The fundraiser was able to raise over $2,000 in hopes that children affected by cancer would be able to attend summer camp for free. ACOP also hosted guest speakers this year including Dr. Matthew Carter, Dr. Nicole Carter and Dr. Katie Wolter who all visited campus to discuss their careers as general pediatricians. In May, ACOP hosted a virtual panel of new VCOM-Auburn alumni to discuss their journey of matching in pediatric residencies. ACOP has provided many exciting events in the past year and members are eager to see what the chapter does next!
