T he VCOM-Auburn chapter of the American College of involving the field of family medicine. The volunteer and networking opportunities provided by ACOFP serve as valuable experiences as students move towards a career in medicine. They also serve as vital reminders of why these students came to medical school. With primary care physicians in short supply, ACOFP provides a glimpse into a field with more opportunities and variety than many imagine. Over the past year, students have had the opportunity to support their local community and learn more about the possibilities of becoming a family physician. The members of ACOFP participated in administering first-aid at the Opelika Pickleball tournament, as well as shared what VCOM-Auburn was about with the community. Virtual meetings were also held to give insight into the world of family medicine. Students heard from ACOFP advisor Johnny Stackhouse, DO, about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted primary care physicians. A meeting with the Class of 2020 allowed students to learn what to expect on rotations and the road to residency.
