VCOM Auburn Yearbook 2020

Promoting a Future of Sustainable Care A Wide Range of International Outreach Educational Opportunities

International Research • Two VCOM internally funded Research Eureka Accelerator Program (REAP) projects in nutrition and DNA sequencing were launched in all three countries. Plans are underway to expand research in nine theme areas. • VCOM students won both the 2019 national Bureau of International Osteopathic Medicine (BIOM) Research Poster and Narrative competitions. • VCOM students presented research at the national American Osteopathic Association (AOA) meeting. • Implemented in each clinic in 2019, the electronic Clinical Rotation Evaluation and Documentation Organizer (CREDO) will provide a database of over 100,000 patient encounters annually that will be unparalleled for epidemiological research and clinic planning.

Outreach Trips • There were eight

international trips from July 2019 to January 2020 across Honduras, El Salvador and the

Dominican Republic with participation from three VCOM campuses. • The number of preceptors ranged from five to nine on each trip with 25 to 35 VCOM students and other volunteers. • Approximately 500 patients received medical care and prescriptions each trip. These patients were in communities distant from VCOM international clinics where travel was difficult or not affordable.
