RURAL & COMMUNITY OUTREACH

300 Masks Sewn in Under Three Weeks VCOM Class of 2022 student, Tram-Anh Huynh, along with her family, have sewn, cut and ironed more than 300 masks in under three weeks. “We are lucky to still be working and have the means to help out in any way we can, so we decided to help our community by making masks, said Huynh. “Because my parents still work and I have to study, we have been working nights and weekends to make these masks. We will continue to make masks until there is no longer a need,” she added. Two hundred of the masks were donated to three hospitals in the Jacksonville community and 100 masks were donated to VCOM- Auburn Associate Dean J.J. White DO, PhD, to distribute to essential workers in the Auburn community.

VCOM-Auburn alumnus Thomas Peterson, DO, from the Class of 2019, works as an emergency medicine resident in Bethesda Hospital East in Boynton Beach, Florida. “Working in the ER during the pandemic has been a unique experience,” said Peterson. “As a resident, I’ve had the opportunity to experience workers in the emergency department. Fighting long hours, decreased physician coverage and insufficient PPE, healthcare workers throughout the country have placed themselves at risk in order to treat their patients. What a humbling experience.” first-hand the amazing response of healthcare
