The American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists (ACONP) chapter at VCOM-Auburn strives to inform students about the practice of medicine and to foster interest within the fields of neurology and psychiatry. It is the club’s aim to have an active presence within the community. This gives the club’s members opportunities to interact with the community, while also exercising their desires to serve others. Throughout the last year, ACONP held multiple events that fostered interest in neurology and psychiatry. During Primary Care Week, ACONP partnered with the VCOM-Auburn chapter of

the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) to host a panel of physicians for a question and answer session. Later that month, ACONP encouraged students to volunteer with the East Alabama’s Alzheimer’s Association chapter to coordinate the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. ACONP volunteers aided the Association with set up of the 5k fundraiser on the Auburn University campus. Just before holiday break, ACONP welcomed VCOM-Auburn faculty member Aaron Hawkins, MD, who provided a sport psychiatry presentation on the topic of anabolic steroid abuse in athletes.
