The VCOM-Auburn chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) has provided the College’s students with a wealth of opportunities and knowledge involving the field of family medicine. The volunteer and networking opportunities provided by ACOFP serve as valuable experiences as students move towards a career in medicine. They also serve as vital reminders of why these students came to medical school. With primary care physicians in short supply, ACOFP provides a glimpse into a field with more opportunity and variety than many imagine. In the past year, students have participated in various activities through ACOFP. During the organization’s annual Primary Care Week, students gathered to hear from physicians from all different walks of life. Students attended dinners where the many career pathways in family

medicine were discussed, and volunteered at a local high school to assist physicians in administering sports physicals. The 2019 Auburn City Fest provided a great opportunity for students to share what VCOM-Auburn was all about while administering first-aid as an official sponsor of the festival. A few students also chose to attend the National ACOFP Conference in Chicago, where they networked with other students and doctors from across the country. Conference attendees brought home ideas about the future of family medicine, like direct primary care, to discuss with other members. The VCOM-Auburn Chapter of ACOFP strives to be a resource for not only students, but also the community. Chapter members continually work to establish a sense of service and trust with those around the community.
