VCOM Auburn Yearbook 2019

VCOM-Auburn’s Student Government Association (SGA) serves students of VCOM, and accommodates the myriad of student organizations and interest groups that are active throughout the year. SGA is also responsible for running Council of Presidents (COPs) meetings that facilitate communication between organization leaders and to provide necessary information and time lines to student-run clubs. SGA hosted activities throughout the year in an effort to give students the opportunity to explore outside of the classroom. At the beginning of the year, SGA represented VCOM on a national level at the Council of Student Government Presidents’ (COSGP) conference and American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) House of Delegates. Then, SGA diligently brought forth the ideas of Big and Little, VCOM Osteolympics, and Day of Service into life from July to November. SGA Student Government Association

was held to foster connections between the first- and second-years. Spanning a month, the first VCOM Osteolympics brought out camaraderie among the classes and competition for the title of winner. VCOM’s Day of Service allowed student organization leaders to plan community service events, such as making blankets, helping an animal shelter or playing with kids. SGA also catered student organizations on campus by hosting an ice cream social for the first-year medical students to meet the organizations during first and fifth block. Additionally, SGA held monthly meetings with organization presidents for updates. From January to June, SGA also started new traditions by hosting a third-year student panel about rotations in May. A board prep presentation was given by a second-year student to first-year students in June. SGA also conducted a breakfast for second-year students prior to their COMSAE in June. Much was accomplished by SGA over the past year with the support of the student body and Student Services.
