a talk called “Turn the Beat Around, Improving Cardiovascular Health and Fitness in the Hispanic Population.” This talk discussed how the diet and lifestyle in Latin culture affects health and can contribute to heart disease. It also covered what students can do as future physicians to address the problem. Afterward, HCMO had a celebration complete with a DJ, face painting, photo booth, pictures with Santa, a Piñata and dance classes. HCMO also partnered with ACOOG to assist with Esperanza House’s back to school bash by doing blood pressure screenings on the children before the new school year started. VCOM-Auburn’s Dr. Gary Hill, Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs, joined HCMO for the club’s block meeting to discuss diversity in the workplace. He also discussed what we members could do

Additionally, HCMO and Esperanza House partnered to tutor Spanish speaking children and help them with their homework. From volunteering in the community to hosting cultural awareness events and Spanish classes, HCMO takes great pride in contributing to VCOM’s mission. Like VCOM, HCMO is helping to prepare globally- minded and community-focused physicians.
