As a non-medical specialty organization, the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has a lot of freedom to develop and change based on the interest of the members. Over the past couple of years, AMWA has slowly been developing an identity of its own, and this year it truly flourished. As the first major event of the year, AMWA joined forces with ACOOG to make Mother’s Day cards for the faculty, staff and students of VCOM, along with cards for any new mothers who would deliver their babies over Mother’s Day weekend at the East Alabama Medical Center. The event was a huge success and sparked an idea for coloring events held throughout the rest of the year. As medical students, life is always busy and stressful, and the coloring provides an opportunity for students to relax and unwind.

A new tradition that was started this year was AMWA’s “Woman of the Month” which highlights a different woman faculty member every month on the big screens in the VCOM-Auburn hallways. By doing this, AMWA is able to shine a spotlight on all the incredible women who work at VCOM. Two of the biggest successes this past year were the annual yard sale and partnering with ACOFP to present Drs. Clay and Renee Davis to speak. The yard sale was held on October 27, 2018, at Cornerstone Church. First and second- year students donated gently used items as part of the inaugural VCOM Osteolympics. Many members of the community attended the yard sale, and the items that were not sold were donated to Goodwill. On November 7, 2018, Drs. Clay and Renee Davis came to speak on
