VCOM - Auburn 2018 Yearbook
T he Student National Medical Association (SNMA) represents future underrepresented medical students. SNMA strives to create diversity and acceptance in the medical field. SNMA reaches undergraduate students through the pipeline outreach organization, Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS). The MAPS program acts as an advocate for premedical students by ensuring their needs are met. SNMA is inclusive of all cultures and supports all premedical and medical students. SNMA hosted its largest event this year, VCOM- Auburn’s first Multicultural Show. The Multicultural Show celebrated diversity on campus and acted as a fundraiser for the Big House Foundation, an Auburn-local foster organization. The show included a talent portion that displayed talents of VCOM’s students. Also, it featured a global fashion show, portraying distinct articles of clothing from various cultures. An after-show dance party was held that featured DJ Juan, a talented family member of a beloved VCOM student. The show had nine acts which included solo singing, Bollywood and interpretive dances, violin and guitar duets and SNMA Student National Medical Association

other talented performances. The fashion show included iconic cultural pieces from Vietnam, Africa, Haiti, India, Malaysia and Guatemala. The Auburn University MAPS chapter was in attendance in order to expose undergraduate students to the medical school community. This collaboration helped foster an open communication between SNMA and the AU MAPS Chapter. The event was successful with about 100 spectators in attendance including VCOM faculty. SNMA was able to give $300 to the Big House Foundation! Members received positive comments about the show and how it portrayed cultural diversity and the various talents of students here at VCOM-Auburn.
