San Salvador, El Salvador O n December 30, 2017, a group of students,faculty and VCOM’s hosting organization, AMILAT, also coordinated site visits and organized local interpreters to facilitate communication with the

international clinic network. The Shalom Clinic operates year-round and is funded by the Salvadoran Ministry of Health, AMILAT and VCOM. The week spent in El Salvador was a rewarding experience for all involved. VCOM students were grateful for the opportunity to expand their medical experience while gaining cultural experience in and outside of the clinic. The preceptors had the chance to impart much of their knowledge and experience to the students. The outreach trip was inspiring for all those who gave their time to meet needs and make a difference for underserved communities in El Salvador.

staff from VCOM-Auburn embarked on a one-week medical outreach trip to El Salvador. VCOM’s outstanding in-country partner, AMILAT, provided local transportation and logistical coordination that made the trip possible. Students had the opportunity to work both in villages and in a local medical clinic VCOM partners with, the Shalom had the opportunity to serve around 321 patients in four different rural sites around San Salvador, making it a remarkable and unforgettable experience for patients, students, preceptors, staff members and volunteers. Clinical activities in El Salvador included day trips to communities throughout the communities surrounding the capital. At these locations, the group quickly assembled tents and OMM tables to transform local community centers, schools and churches into temporary clinics. Medicines not used on the trip were donated to the Shalom Clinic, as part of VCOM’s continuous care to local residents and
