“ Interacting with patients during the trip- talking to them, examining them, identifying abnormalities in their ear canals or breathing patterns, and communicating with them about their conditions or ailments- reaffirms one’s commitment to patient care. After a year of medical education that didn’t involve any patient interaction, it was a wonderful experience to be
able to take some of what we have learned and apply it to clinical medicine. I’m grateful for the opportunity we had to serve members of communities that lack access to, among many other luxuries afforded us students, basic medical care and medicine. ”
