MMSA Muslim Medical Students Association

Tahseen Munshi, President; Neveen Al-Said, Vice President; Siraj Abdullah, DO, Faculty Advisor

M MSA advocates for Muslim medical students and patients throughout the year by raising awareness of pertinent religious and cultural traditions. Every year, MMSA hosts one large event, the Ramadan Iftar dinner. Ramadan is a holy month in Islam where Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset for 30 days. MMSA’s Ramadan dinner allows all VCOM faculty, staff and students to experience a portion of the holy month. The dinner not only features great food, but provides educational opportunities for students. At the dinner, MMSA members share their testimonies and experiences in their practice of Islam. Additionally, Dr. Annie Kirby provides a presentation on the health benefits of fasting. MMSA works to meet VCOM’s mission by embracing diversity and promoting globally- minded physicians.
