T he purpose of the Via Wellness program at the VCOM-Auburn campus is to promote a healthy mind, body and spirit. The program provides enrichment to campus life through a wide variety of sports, fitness and exercise, as well as social, cultural and spiritual events. Students, faculty, staff and their family members are welcome to participate in all Via Wellness activities at VCOM-Auburn. The Via Wellness social committee focuses on holding events to get students outside of the classroom and socialize with each other and faculty in a more casual setting. The most popular event this year was the “Back to School BBQ.” This was the first year the Social Committee put on this outstanding event. Students and faculty gathered on VCOM’s lawn and enjoyed great homemade food, played corn hole, listened to music and got to know one another. Other Social Committee events included the beloved, annual Chili Cook Off and the first food truck on campus.
The Via Wellness Physical Committee was involved in many different events that earn points and promote physical wellness. The first event of the year was at Chewacla State Park in Auburn where several students gathered together to hike for a few hours. Additionally, the annual “powderpuff” game was held at the Auburn University intramural fields. Females from the first-year and second-year classes competed against each other. Male students and those not participating either coached or participated as cheerleaders or spectators. This year, the class of 2020 won the game by one point in triple overtime. The Physical Committee also hosted a three-on- three basketball tournament at the Auburn Student Recreation Center. VCOM-Auburn had several intramural teams involved in various sports throughout the year that competed with Auburn University student teams. These included flag football, sand volleyball, indoor volleyball, co-ed basketball, men’s and women’s basketball, co- ed outdoor soccer, indoor soccer and co-ed softball.
