T he purpose of the Via Wellness program at the VCOM-Auburn campus is to promote a healthy mind, body and spirit. The program provides enrichment to campus life through a wide variety of sports, fitness and exercise, as well as social, cultural and spiritual events. Students, faculty, staff and their family members are welcome to participate in all Via Wellness activities at VCOM-Auburn and in the community. Fitness awards are provided for those who achieve various levels of participation. According to Cody Jinnette, the best and most influential thing that the social committee did in the first year was beginning the Annual Chili Cook-off. This was the first event that was held for the student body at VCOM-Auburn. “I think it was the first time that students

and faculty got to really get to know each other outside of the classroom,” said Jinnette. “It was our best-attended event, and both students and faculty loved the event,” he added. Other events on campus included a wellness week that promoted numerous healthy activities for the mind, body and spirit. Members also held a tailgate event, a “Doc Trot,” where students could better get to know faculty, an exercise is medicine walk, yoga class, a Valentine’s card event and a running club. A Via Wellness Committee was also formed that included members from the student body, faculty, staff and administrators that provided input on activities for all to engage in at VCOM-Auburn.
