VCOM - Auburn 2017 Yearbook

student organizations

T he CMDA student organization at VCOM-Auburn provides opportunities for medical students and doctors alike to grow in their faith as Christians, both on campus and in practice. The mission of CMDA was beautifully expressed this past year through eating dinners together, learning through engaging talks from local and visiting physicians and growing in fellowship through small groups. Dr. Carol Spears spoke about her journey in becoming a missionary surgeon in Kenya. She shared with members some of her deepest struggles and the absolute joy of a life devoted to honoring Christ and serving patients. Dr. Spears gave members a glimpse into what life could really be like if we were called

to pursue international medicine. Dr. Wit touched students by vulnerably sharing his story and walk with Jesus. He encouraged members to cling to the Word of God. One student said that a verse he shared has become her banner for medical school, Proverbs 21:31— “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.” We are thankful that God placed a community of believers within VCOM and also provided amazing support from local physicians and faculty. As we move forward in this journey of becoming physicians, our prayer is that we keep at the forefront of our minds that ultimately we study and learn to serve Him, and it is He that will sustain us.
