Partnerships Help VCOM Provide Continuity of Care
O ver the past 20 years, VCOM has established in-country approvals through the ministry of health and in-county partnerships with other nonprofit non-governmental organizations in order to provide SUSTAINABLE healthcare clinics. These in-country partners are important for our clinics and for providing the logistics for our outreach trips such as identifying areas that are safe and also those most in need. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic The Punta Cana Foundation and the Ministry of Health provide support for the VCOM efforts in the Dominican Republic. These are important partnerships for the success of advancing public health and healthcare in the country. These partners and VCOM support the Verón Rural Clinic who see patients from the most impoverished communities of Verón, Bavaro, and the surrounding rural areas. Since 2017, VCOM is also a partner supporting the Oscar de la Renta Pediatric Clinic , which provides patient care and emergency care to children from the surrounding area.

The clinic is staffed by carefully selected bilingual Honduran physicians who have been hired and credentialed by VCOM and by Baxter staff. This successful partnership has led to an established clinic that provides ongoing care, with over 13,000 patient visits annually. VCOM fourth-year students participate in one-month long rotations at the clinic. In addition, VCOM students and faculty provide three annual outreach trips to surrounding rural areas and populations in need.
