V COM’s International Outreach program exemplifies the College’s commitment to fostering compassionate, globally minded physicians. Each year, VCOM medical students and faculty travel to underserved regions in Honduras and the Dominican Republic, bringing healthcare to communities with limited access to medical resources. These experiences are transformative for both students and the communities they serve. For students, the outreach trips provide an invaluable opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, learning conditions rarely seen in the United States and navigating resource-limited settings, future physicians gain essential skills in adaptability, empathy, and problem-solving—qualities that define VCOM alumni. For the communities, VCOM’s presence is life-changing. Over the years, these outreach trips have provided thousands of patients with to adapt to diverse cultural and clinical environments.
