VCOM 2024 Annual Report

The Via Learning Management System VCOM’s Via Learning Management System (VLMS) is a customized and upgradable web based syndromic surveillance application used to track clinical patient encounters. The system allows for professional and self reporting as well as contact tracing, and can be used as a worldwide Electronic Medical Health system for remote medical clinics that report back to a centralized database. VLMS allows us to track what students are learning in clinical settings and enables us to see health patterns quickly, enabling public health authorities to be alerted in the event of outbreaks. See page 96 to learn how a $3.5 million grant from the DOD will help with the development of a cutting-edge, AI-driven public health dashboard. Since the Via Learning Management System (VLMS) was put in place in 2019, more than 6.4 million diagnostic and procedural entries have been logged for more than 3.5 million patients by students across all four VCOM campuses.

case presentations with their DSME and students from other health professions. Clinical rotations include both inpatient and outpatient education and are supervised by both MD and DO faculty physicians. Clinical assessments during the third year include faculty evaluations for each clinical rotation, end-of-rotation exams, assessment of the case presentation, and a research or case study paper following the research course/rotation. Year 4 C linical education continues in the fourth year of medical school. However, students have more flexibility and opportunity to choose elective rotations where they can focus on their interest in specific medical discipline. The clinical education structure provides students with an experience that both enhances their education and meets their personal needs.
