Shaping the Future of Medicine with VCOM Programs of Study
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine DO Degree Program V COM is an innovative, four-year, private, non-profit medical school with four campuses offering the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. The DO degree offered by VCOM is a four-year program with two years of primarily classroom learning experiences followed by two years of clinical experiences. VCOM students, like all DOs, receive specialized training in the musculoskeletal system, the body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. By combining this knowledge with the latest advances in medical technology, they offer patients the most comprehensive care available. Osteopathic physicians focus on prevention by tuning in to how a patient’s lifestyle and environment can impact their wellbeing. When VCOM students successfully complete their DO degree, they are qualified to move on to a residency where they complete additional in-depth, practical training in their chosen medical specialty.
DO Degree with Research Distinction A vital part of the VCOM mission is engaging in research that advances our understanding of human health. Faculty and students recognize the importance of continuous advancement in medical practice through cutting-edge research findings. As a result, many students at VCOM have a desire to conduct research as part of their medical education experience. To complete a DO degree with Research Distinction, VCOM students must complete a research project designed and conducted with a faculty research mentor. Students who complete this degree gain experience in basic and applied research and advance scientific knowledge.
More than 25% of all U.S. medical students are pursuing osteopathic medicine
