DO with Research Distinction A vital part of the VCOM mission is engaging in research that advances our understanding of human health. Faculty and students recognize the importance of continuous advancement in medical practice through cutting-edge research findings. As a result, many students at VCOM have a desire to conduct research as part of their medical education experience. T o complete a DO with Research Distinction, VCOM students must complete a research project designed and conducted with a faculty research mentor. Students who complete this degree gain experience in basic and applied research and advance scientific knowledge.
