Continuing the Legacy: VCOM-Auburn Alumnus Returns to Alabama to Practice
S teven Nabers’ roots in Red Bay’s healthcare run deep. It all started with his grandparents, followed by his father, Dr. Nabers, DO, who continued the legacy by establishing his own medical practice in Red Bay. Growing up, Steven was immersed in the world of medicine, spending nights at his father’s practice when he was as young as two years old. His journey to becoming a family medicine physician began at VCOM Auburn, where he graduated as a member of the Class of 2019. Following his time at VCOM-Auburn, Dr. Nabers completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 2022. He is deeply committed to enhancing local healthcare services, aiming to minimize the need for residents to seek specialist care elsewhere. Dr. Nabers advocates for keeping medical services with Red Bay, ensuring convenient access to comprehensive healthcare for all residents.
In a 2022 interview with the Red Bay News, Dr. Nabers said, “A lot of times people get transferred out (of Red Bay Hospital) if they need a specialist… One of the things we’ve been talking about is trying to keep more people here in town… We could offer that here so they could consult and get the treatment we can offer here.”
“Being a family medicine physician in our local community is super rewarding—to assist, help those whom I have known growing up...”
Currently, Dr. Steven Nabers serves as a family medicine physician at Nabers Family Medical Center, the clinic established by his family and where he grew up. My goal for Red Bay is to bring more options to our community so they have better access to them. I can truly say that this was God’s plan for me.” Dr. Nabers’ commitment exemplifies the importance of family legacies and VCOM-Auburn’s mission to healthcare. His roles as a physician come together to assure residents that their healthcare needs are in capable hands, paving the way for a brighter and healthier future for Red Bay.
