Residency Specialties in the Areas of Greatest Need V COM recruits many students who grew up in medically underserved and rural areas. The College outcomes report shows VCOM Graduate Matches by Specialty Classes of 2020-2024
that most return to live and practice in communities in urgent need of medical professionals, thus providing valuable hands on experience. Following graduation, VCOM alumni enter residencies and begin to focus on their individual specialties. A high percentage choose to enter primary care, upholding the College’s mission to meet the growing need for physicians in the Appalachian and Delta regions and beyond.
