VCOM 2023 Annual Report
C ompleting a medical degree is just one step in the process of becoming a fully qualified physician. Furthermore, improving health access involves more than educating physicians; it means providing degree programs for students who have interests in other kinds of healthcare work. It also means partnering with other organizations who, like VCOM, are committed to improving healthcare access. and partnerships with organizations and institutions who share the College’s values. Graduate Medical Education G ME encompasses residencies, fellowships and other programs that enhance medical education after students graduate from medical school. Physicians attend fellowship programs after they complete their residencies to further their education in a particular specialty or sub-specialty. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) sets requirements for and monitors these programs. All of that is why VCOM has developed two graduate medical education (GME) programs VCOM is home to two ACGME-accredited fellowship programs: the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, established in 2004, and the VCOM-Virginia Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM3) Residency Program, established in 2016.
