VCOM 2022 Annual Report

Limestone University Booster Drive — Limestone University, in cooperation with VCOM-Carolinas, hosted a St. Patrick’s Day event on the front campus on March 17, 2022, that included games, merchandise, and the opportunity to receive COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. VCOM has teamed up with Limestone in an effort to reduce the shortage of medical doctors in the Southeast. VCOM’s partnership with Limestone provides pre-medical students an opportunity to receive a guaranteed admissions interview, as well as take part in an early admission program. VCOM typically receives 11,000 applications for about 500 spots in its program. PEDS Fair — VCOM-Carolinas annual Pediatric Wellness Fair was held at the Spartanburg YMCA on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Children participated in a variety of health-related, fun activities and were awarded prizes for their efforts. SEE Program — The Summer Enrichment Experience (SEE) returned to VCOM-Carolinas in July 2022 after a two-year hiatus. The program offers talented high-schoolers a chance to get a close look at the daily life and learning process of medical students. Through the

South Carolina Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare, a mobile clinic is making its way across different counties to do free screenings for the community, placing emphasis on those in underserved populations. VCOM-Carolinas received the grant through DHEC and brought the mobile clinic to Greenwood on Thursday to offer free blood pressure, glucose and sexually transmitted disease screenings.
