From the first day they begin their medical education, VCOM students are actively involved in community service

VCOM-Auburn and Mercy Medical Clinic Hold Community Health Screening — Healthcare professionals with the Mercy Medical Clinic in Auburn and VCOM-Auburn students provided free health assessments to the public in historic downtown Loachapoka, Alabama, on Friday, July 7, 2021. Assessments included a questionnaire about a patient’s health history, along with the health history of their family, as well as checking vital signs and conducting screening to identify the presence or likelihood of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and others. VCOM-Auburn regularly partners with many other clinics and organizations to provide health screenings for the public in the Auburn-Opelika area, along with surrounding communities VCOM Student Club Raises Funds for COVID-19 Relief and Christmas Gifts for Children — The Hispanic Community Medical Outreach Student Organization (HCMO) at the Auburn Campus held its first cross-campus “Virtual Christmas Tree Fundraiser” to send Christmas gifts to the children at VCOM’s international outreach sites. Due to the impact of COVID-19 and limited access to clinical sites in Central America, HCMO sought to assist families that were struggling for resources and essential items. HCMO recognizes that the cooperation of families at various mission sites allows VCOM students to become better physicians for their future patients. HCMO has prioritized efforts to help the local communities associated

with VCOM mission sites and confirmed its steadfast commitment to continue to provide aid, despite the difficult situation. A Christmas tree was placed in the Student Services Office with photos of the different children for whom the club was fundraising. The VCOM-Auburn campus specifically worked to raise funds for the Heart of Mary Orphanage in El Salvador, which at the time housed seven boys and 15 girls.
