I could not have had a better experience on my first medical outreach trip to the Dominican Republic! My first day in clinic,

I spent the day working with Dr. Kraig Smith examining pregnant patients and learning how to perform a prenatal exam. As we were finishing up for the day, we were alerted about a woman delivering her baby in a cab outside of the clinic. It was amazing to see Dr. Smith jump into action, deliver the placenta and care for the new mom. While this was happening, I was able to witness the incredible in-country doctors take care of the newborn. The baby girl wasn’t responding well at first, but they administered epinephrine and she responded perfectly. This experience set the tone for the whole week, and I cannot wait to attend my next VCOM medical outreach trip!”
