INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH

Rotations and Residency • Approximately 90 third- and fourth-year VCOM students completed one-month international rotations across the VCOM international sites. • 10 residents from five different hospitals completed rotations at the international sites. They developed skills in tropical medicine, global health and culture competencies. Students worked with global health teams, including full-time in-country physicians serving as preceptors. Evaluations from students attest to outstanding experiences vital to their preparation as physicians.

Global Health Education

VCOM Internship The VCOM International Outreach Internship program provides undergraduates at nearby universities a full semester internship that includes an opportunity to participate in an international trip. This is a great recruitment program to attract high-quality students to VCOM and an excellent opportunity for these students to shadow medical education.

VCOM provides a one-of- a-kind global health course called the Global Seminar for Health and Environment in which medical students at VCOM and affiliated international medical schools join together to discuss public health issues and global solutions through a case-study approach. Students from each campus studies and then discuss a consensus view as a global health team through an interactive video conference.
