Fullerton Foundation Supports VCOM Research and CurriculumDevelopment

G ifts to the Research Fund enable Through the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations, VCOM makes a priority of encouraging faculty, students and researchers to develop promising research ideas and apply for extramural funding. VCOM received a multi-year grant of $150,000 from The Fullerton Foundation to use in the purchase of ultrasound equipment that assists in the training of medical students in primary care and emergency situations. This equipment has been instrumental in developing the curriculum for the effective utilization of handheld equipment in primary care and medical outreach programs. VCOM to develop successful research programs and research centers.

In commenting about the support from The Fullerton Foundation, Chris Steed, Executive Director of the Foundation, said, “The Fullerton Foundation has a 35-year history of investing in the next generation of primary care providers. When our trustees looked at VCOM’s mission and track record related to graduates that pursue a residency in primary care, the Foundation’s support of VCOM’s growth was an easy decision.” In addition to outside support, VCOM designates seed money for faculty to develop new research concepts. Research projects funded under this program encompass both biomedical and clinical areas.
