VCOM 2020 Annual Report

SCHOLARSHIPS & GIVING

Scholarship Highlights E very day, our friends and alumni create opportunities that lead to success for our students. Through the generosity of many, we are educating physicians and preparing them to make a difference in their communities. It is with great pride and gratitude we introduce you to a small sample of the dedicated students who attend VCOM as a result of your generosity.

Hannah Gullickson, ’20 “I participated in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and treated patients in a women’s health, pediatrics and family medicine clinic. This trip taught me that health care disparities impact patients and families worldwide, but as a future physician, I can provide quality medical care to improve the lives of my patients.”

The H. Pat and Nancy E. Artis Endowed Medical Scholarship

Jacob Vaught, ’21 “Having met so many amazing physician mentors that serve the medical need in rural Appalachia, it would be a privilege for me to do the same. I have a lifelong personal commitment to serving others in underserved areas.”

The Randal “R.J.” Kirk Endowed Medical Scholarship

Leah Roth, ’20 “I want to practice pediatrics in a small community where I will have the opportunity to impact the lives of children in a personal way. I want to be able to advocate for children where technology might not be as integrated into everyday life or where family situations at home may not be the best for children.”

F.W. “Sonny”Merryman Jr. Family Endowed Scholarship

Marco Cunicelli, ’21 “I resolved to become an osteopathic physician because I want to further improve the physician-patient relationship and remove barriers to access to care. I came to medicine through service to the underserved.
