VCOM 2019 Annual Report

“ On my bathroom mirror is written ‘blessed in order to be a blessing.’ This journey in medicine is the blessing I get to offer people professionally. Over the week I was deeply

moved by several cases I managed. One case in particular involved a young man who was going blind, yet he sought care for a cold. This young man had adapted to his failing vision and did not complain about it to us.The experience forced my own privilege of accessibility to healthcare into the forefront of my mind. I would never have to deal with unresolved illness due to a lack in access to healthcare; this fact resonated with me. In that moment it was clear that he and several others were a part of my purpose in being there, in running this marathon called medicine. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve in El Salvador. The week-long experience exceeded my expectations in several ways. I will forever carry these memories, hoping that they continue to offer motivation in difficult times throughout my training. ” Tianna Humes VCOM-Auburn Class of 2021, Dec. 2018
