VCOM 2019 Annual Report

“ This trip allowed me to apply my personal mission in medicine to serve the medically underserved. To

see the face of another person putting all their trust and hope in your help and their children was nearly overwhelming but also an exciting moment each time. I felt a variety of emotions throughout the day, from the thrill of sending off a patient with exactly what they needed to cure their illness, to the harsh reality of knowing that no amount of time I could spend would really change much for their specific illness. However, this mix of emotions is what medicine is: a complex system where the most precious thing to every human being, their life, is at the mercy of a select few, chance, and unfortunately, money. Our unique position as providers gives us the responsibility of guarding the lives of those with nothing to give back, and this trip gave me this realization first hand. Recharged with my passion which moved me into medical school, I look forward to one day returning to help the medically underserved. ” Juan Martinez VCOM-Auburn Class of 2021, July 2018
