T he VCOM–Virginia Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal ONMM2 Residency Program was initiated in response to the growing population of patients in need of osteopathic medical care. The ONMM program provides training in the development of osteopathic clinical skills needed to diagnose and manage illnesses and injuries. The ONMM program implements educational experiences necessary for the resident to achieve the knowledge, psychomotor skills, interpersonal skills, professional attitudes and practical experience required of the ONMM specialist physician. VCOM faculty provide educational and clinical opportunities designed to allow the resident to assume progressive responsibility for patient care. This program emphasizes osteopathic medicine as a philosophy to be applied to medical practice along with a strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology – making students all around better physicians. The program fosters both academic and research growth to develop physicians who can confidently serve as program directors and researchers in osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine.
